I was particularly impressed by Javed’s customer service as he was extremely helpful and flexible on both meeting dates and the lab specifications as the latter changed during the planning process. All the pupils and the science teachers love their lessons, in particular the experiments, in the newly refurbished lab and we look forward to Klick coming back at Easter and then again in the summer to bring more of our facilities into the 21st century!
Zsofia Sears – Head of Science, Royal Masonic School for Girls
The aim was to modernise the chemistry lab design, transforming the outdated Iroko lab into a contemporary facility to inspire the students. The science department wanted to create a separate practical and theory area within the chemistry laboratory. Our designers developed a number of design options with a brief to use purple as the highlight colour to co-ordinate with the school’s colours.
Our design team worked closely with the head of science to refine the layout designs. The practical areas are designed to promote group work and allow easy access to water, gas and electricity. Velstone was selected as the worktop material which has appropriate chemical resistance for the school’s requirements.
Some reconfiguration of the room was required and Klick blocked up a window so that the fixed fume cupboard could be positioned at a safe distance from the door. Access to other classrooms was improved and the dividing feature wall painted purple. The science department opted for neutral coloured furniture with purple edged doors and purple chairs to match.
The school took advantage of our pre-summer discount and decided to have the full lab refurbishment completed during the Easter holidays.
