One of our most rewarding long-term partnerships has been with Brookfield Community School in Derbyshire, where we’ve delivered a three-year rolling programme of refurbishment, covering 12 science labs, two food technology rooms and an art room.
A Collaborative Approach to Educational Refurbishment
During a recent visit to the school, we spoke with Jonny Hodkin, Brookfield’s dedicated site manager. Jonny praised the way Klick managed the project, commenting on the efficiency, professionalism and minimal disruption during term time. However, the school itself also deserves recognition for its collaborative approach.

Jonny shared that since the refurbishment, there has been a noticeable increase in student interest in science, food technology and art. Despite the temporary inconvenience during term-time works, teachers were enthusiastic about the upgrades and couldn’t wait to start teaching in their newly modernised classrooms.
The learning environment now feels bright, fresh and inspiring. The science department features an improved layout so that all students have improved engagement with the teaching staff and each department is clearly defined with large, welcoming graphics that enhance navigation and school pride.
Upgrade Provides Flexible, Functional and Inspiring Spaces
Each room has been thoughtfully designed to support teaching styles and encourage engagement:
- Science labs with altered teaching focus so that all students now face the front and improved storage with well-labelled Gratnells trays to support organisation
- Art rooms fitted with pull-down electric sockets, making the room more multi-functional in providing the flexibility to provide D&T lessons
- Food technology rooms with generous storage space to reduce clutter and bespoke microwave units to maximise workspace, plus mobile teacher benches for adaptable instruction
- Improvements in heating replacing gas heating with a more economical combination of air conditioning and heating with an electrical condenser unit and cooled fan system has improved control, especially for the food technology rooms which were too hot in the summer and cold in the winter
These tailored features ensure that classrooms not only look modern but also meet the practical needs of staff and students.
