Klick completed the conversion of one of our classrooms into a new food technology room designed specifically for children aged 5-11. Although the project was started in half term, the majority of the work was scheduled for completion during term time. The project was well managed with little disruption to the school routine and was completed on schedule. The staff and children are delighted with their colourful new food room which helps to promote healthy eating from a young age.

PROJECT BRIEF
The school actively promote healthy eating and wanted to convert a first floor classroom into a new food technology room suitable for primary school children. The design was to accommodate 8 electric cookers at a lower height of 770mm.
THE RESULTS
The project was started with the heavy strip out work during May half term. Work continued during term-time, bringing in services from the school canteen below.
A new mains distribution board was installed to allow for increased electrical capacity. Thermostatic mixing valves were installed for each sink to regulate the temperature of the hot water for the younger children. The design featured contrast coloured flooring to denote areas of diffent use, red for cooking along the two side walls and blue for washing up along the end wall. A bespoke teaching wall was designed to fit at the front of the classroom, featuring tray storage and whiteboards. A separate prep area was equipped with a diswasher and storage units.
The project was completed on budget and in time for the official visit by Nick Clegg to launch free school lunches for under 7s.
