The project management and communication was exceptional. The level of detail from scope through to costing, including the interviews they held with staff, it was all superb. Having one point of contact throughout the project has meant that Liam is really in tune with our values and requirements from a business point of view. Project Brief
Bevie services the fermentation sector, both the homebrew market and the commercial alcoholic drinks sector, supplying breweries and distilleries globally. Following expansion they required a specialist laboratory fit out company to transform their outdated lab into a technical facility to showcase their innovative R & D capability. The workflow needed to be improved and the footprint expanded to accommodate 8 technical staff and a flexible area for high profile visitor tastings. Furniture and equipment were to be installed, including a gas chromatograph, a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and various meters. The equipment is used for new product development and quality testing of Bevie’s extensive range. The project scope also included the management and reconnection of specialist gases.
Lab Design and Construction
Following design meetings with all stakeholders Klick’s sales and contracts teams addressed requests from multiple parties and refined them into a realistic proposal which formed the basis of the quote.
Klick developed design features to suit Bevie’s specific requirements. The coved flooring throughout the lab was site formed to prevent leaks to the floor below. The brew room featured bespoke shelving to allow for easy handling of the conical fermentation vessels, which is an improvement in welfare for their lab staff. Hygienic cladding was fitted from floor to ceiling for ease of cleaning and to prevent staining from red wine & whiskey etc.
Challenges of Laboratory Fit Out
There were many Health & Safety considerations as the laboratory is located on the first floor and access was through a working sales office that needed to stay in action throughout the refurbishment work. Communication was critical, Klick staff were advised of special delivery instructions and Bevie staff were updated on delivery dates.
Noise levels were kept to a minimum during working hours and the old glass partition was left in place during the works to minimise disruption as office staff were working on the other side of the glass. There was a tight schedule but Klick co-ordinated the project with precision and despite challenging conditions the relationship with Bevie remained very positive.
