Lab Design for Cyprotex Provides Flexibility and Efficiency

Laboratory Design and Furniture Installation for Cyprotex

View our video for details of the lab design process with interviews from the team at Cyprotex and Klick.

From the early design stages through to installation, Klick remained attentive to the needs of our business and took the time to fully understand how the laboratories needed to function. Flexibility was a major priority for us and the furniture Klick provided gives us the ability to adapt the laboratories as our workflows evolve.
The quality of the mobile benching and storage systems was particularly important, as these areas receive intensive day-to-day use. The flexibility of the furniture, combined with details such as integrated services and mobile storage, has created a laboratory environment that genuinely supports the way our teams work now and into the future.”

Brian Miller – Engineering and Facilities Manager, Cyprotex

Project Brief

Cyprotex is a contract research organisation specialising in pharmaceutical, biotech, personal care and chemical research. Having outgrown its existing premises, the company planned to expand into a new 32,000 sq ft facility at Alderley Science Park, designed to support future growth over the next 10–20 years.

Lab Design Includes Bespoke Furniture for Heavy Equipment

Klick worked closely with the team at Cyprotex to refine the design and plan the installation of the specialist laboratory furniture across 12 laboratories over three floors.

Due to the scale and complexity of the project, the laboratory design phase was extensive. Klick developed bespoke laboratory furniture ranging from low-level benching for specialist equipment to heavy-duty workstations designed to support machinery weighing up to 250kg.

Bespoke features were designed to improve efficiency and maximise usable bench space. These included lab workbenches with anti vibration feet, low-profile service spines, integrated cable access ports and a flexible cable management system. Trespa worktops and stainless steel frameworks were selected for their durability, ease of cleaning and suitability for high-use laboratory applications.

Laboratory Furniture Design to Maximise Flexibility

Flexibility was a key priority throughout the laboratory fit-out. Mobile lab benching, storage systems and mobile cabinets allow workspaces to be quickly reconfigured as operational requirements evolve. To improve ergonomics and accommodate different users, some laboratory benching was manufactured at a higher working height.

Freestanding reagent shelves and service integration beneath the benches allow scientists to position equipment and consumables wherever required.

The completed laboratory fit-out provides Cyprotex with a highly adaptable, future-focused facility designed to support evolving scientific processes and continued growth.
