British Science Festival 2026: Celebrating Science and Innovation
The British Science Festival returns from 16–20 September 2026, bringing five days of science, discovery and innovation to Southampton.
Organised by the British Science Association in partnership with the University of Southampton, the Festival features around 90 free events, including talks, workshops, exhibitions, performances and interactive activities. This year’s programme explores subjects ranging from AI and health to climate change, sustainability, marine research and the future of food.
British Science Festival Highlight
One event that caught our attention at Klick is Engineering food Solutions, taking place on Saturday 19 September at the Sir James Matthews Building (Lecture Theatre 2). The talk explores how engineers, clinicians and community leaders are working together to tackle food poverty and turn waste into fresh food.

Using real-world projects, the speakers will look at how technologies including aquaponics, bioreactors and hydroponics, combined with community-led design, can help create more sustainable food systems.
Food science and innovation is particularly relevant to our work at Klick, with our expertise in Food and drinks laboratory design we help businesses create specialist environments for product development, testing and research.
At Klick, we’ve seen first-hand how the right laboratory environment can help food and beverage businesses develop and expand their R&D capabilities. Our recent work with JPL Flavours, for example, has included the creation of specialist laboratories for sweet, savoury and beverage flavour development.
Events such as the British Science Festival provide a great opportunity to celebrate the research, people and facilities helping to drive scientific innovation across the UK.
Keep up to date with all the free events and activities on the British Science Festival 2026 website and start planning your visit to Southampton.
At Klick, we create laboratory environments designed around the people who use them. Our experienced consultants work with scientists across a wide range of disciplines, developing practical, flexible spaces that support current research while allowing for future change.
