Science Lab & Teaching Wall Furniture Installation

Penrice Academy, St Austell

“We are delighted with our design, it meets our requirements perfectly for flexible teaching spaces. The workstations around the outside of the room provide students with the perfect place to do their practical work with self contained sets of equipment, whilst they can leave their theory work at their desk and switch seamlessly between the two. Our students have really benefited from the design and we have even colour coded the stools and trays so the practical work is highly organised. The teaching walls have been a fantastic addition to the rooms giving us extra storage and an excellent teaching space. The service from Klick has been helpful throughout and I would happily recommend them to others.”

Doug O’Brien – Head of Science, Penrice Academy, St Austell, Cornwall

PROJECT BRIEF

The main priority for the Academy was to design functional science laboratories and build maximum flexibility into the new rooms. The science laboratories were to accomodate 32 students and to co-ordinate with the existing labs. It was also key for the rooms to have a contemporary look and for the teaching walls to provide sufficient space to store equipment and resources.

THE RESULTS

Having a proven track record record for providing a quality product within budget, Klick were the clear choice as the science laboratory furniture supplier. Our team were instrumental in co-ordinating the initial stages of the project. We worked with the end user from the school, the architect and the main contractor to develop realistic costs and timescales to enable the project to progress and ultimately meet the deadline.

Klick worked on the designs for the bespoke teaching walls and science laboratories, which featured 8 service pods around the perimeter acting as workstations for practical work. The spacing between these pods was critical to ensure sufficient room for 4 students per pod for practical work.

The loose science tables can be configured into rows or moved together to create group practical areas. The stools and trays are colour co-ordinated so that each work area is clearly identified and equipment can be stored methodically.
The school staff are very happy with the flexibility this layout provides and the way the science laboratory furniture functions.
